The Upperville Flock

About our Kerry Hills

Originating from the Welsh border of Powys and Shropshire, the Kerry Hill is one of Britain's most distinctive and architecturally striking breeds, immediately recognizable by its bold black-and-white facial markings, clean legs, and refined carriage. Selectively bred for centuries in the uplands of mid-Wales, these sheep carry the genetic intelligence of a hardy hill breed with the temperament and frame of a true dual-purpose animal.

At Bellwether Farm, our Kerry Hill flock has been selected with the same discipline we apply to every enterprise: bred for excellence, not volume. Our animals are evaluated on structural correctness, mothering ability, and genetic consistency.

Breed-up Program

At this time, live Kerry Hill Sheep are not permitted to be imported into the United States from the UK. However, 100% KH semen is. This allows us to cross the KH genetics with ewes that have similar characteristics through artificial insemination. The result are beautiful high percentage KH lambs. Currently, our KH flock ranges from 87.5%-100%.

Our Bloodlines

We have been fortunate to partner with top Kerry Hill breeders in the UK, who have made it possible for us to bring those outstanding genetics to the United States. Our ewes are AI'd with semen from high quality, pedigree rams from top UK flocks such as Whitfield, Downwood and Hassockrigg, to name a few.

Embryo Transfers

We are proud to be one of the first breeders in the United States to import 100% Kerry Hill embryos from the UK. In July of 2024, we welcomed our first 100% Kerry Hill lambs via Embryo Transfer.
